My mom called this morning. She mentioned that she and my dad were going to his 50th high school reunion next month. I told her that mine was next month, too. She says to me, "So this is your 10 year reunion, right?"
Uh, no. "It's my 20 year, mom."
Silence.
"Yeah. I've been out of school for 20 years now."
My mom sighs. "This makes me feel older than it did last week when your brother turned 30."
I guess it will be my turn to feel old when I become a grandma. Which is very possible within the next five years... eep!

Before Jeff and I got married I used to help his mom in her kindergarten class. Now I am a "church lady" who helps at baccalaureate, and here come those same kids as graduates. Talk about feeling old...
thanks for the e-mail, lady. I'll get back to you soon! M.C.
Yeah, that would definitely do it! I keep wondering when it happened that I became the "old person"... you know, people like your teacher in school, or the ladies at church with kids, or the neighbor person next door.
It's so weird to contemplate that I could become a grandma soon! Grandmas are OLD, you know... :)
It's funny, I always thought of my grandparents as old, but when I look at my kids with their grandparents, my folks and in-laws don't really seem like old people. I wonder what the kids' perception of them will be when they are remembering as grown ups?
See, there's the paradox. When we're little, our parents are "old" and our grandparents are "ancient". It's funny how your perspective changes as you get to be "old" and are quickly approaching "ancient". :)
Now I look back, and my mom didn't look any different than I do now. It's funny to consider my kids seeing me as "old", just as I saw my parents at that age.
Now, feature this...at the reunion Saturday night we all stood on the steps to take a group picture. Afterwards we grouped around the tiny screen for a preview and someone said, "hey, we look pretty good!" I said, "yea, not bad...but how did my mother's upper arms get in this picture!?!"
Ha.
LOL, Mrs. C! It is funny how we end up with someone else's body, isn't it? :) And we have so little say in the matter!
