Kayla: I don't like this dollar bill. It's all wrinkly and not pretty.
Me: Money is money. Doesn't matter what it looks like. It all spends the same.
Kayla: But I don't like ugly things in my purse!
Lu: Wait...don't you have something in your purse with your picture on it for ID?
Me: (laughing)
Kayla: Yes, of course I do.
Lu: (laughing)

Regarding some of the ice issues at the Vancouver Winter Olympics...

Me: One of my friends wondered if there was zamboni tampering going on.
Kayla: What's a zamboni?
Me: The machine that lays down the smooth ice for the skaters.
Kayla: Oh! I thought you were talking about a tribe or something.

Summertime

Summertime means no time to blog. Or read blogs. So as far as the blogging world goes, I suck all the time during the summertime.

But today I will leave you with a summertime moment in my house:

Me: (getting ready to slice the end off a watermelon)
Me: Kayla! Come here!
Kayla: (comes into the kitchen and sees what I'm doing)
Kayla: Yay! You know I love the butt of watermelons!

Me: Now that you're driving, I want to be sure you know how to change a flat tire.
Kayla: Oh, I already know how.
Me: Really? Explain how to me.
Kayla: You get out of your car, stick your boobs and butt way out, and your tire will get changed in about 5 minutes.

Blog Encouragement

So I told Kayla she was "featured" on my Tuesday blog post. She was a little worried about what I'd said ("Not me-- it's what YOU said.") until she had come home from school and checked it out herself. :)

I told her, yet again, that she should start her own blog. Her answer?

"But I have nothing to write about. What would I say? 'Today I went pee. It was amazing!'"

Then she asked me if it was true that people eat about a pound of small jumping spiders in their lifetime, while they sleep. She heard it on the radio. And then proceeded to act it out. LOL!

Maybe one of these days I'll convince her to start up her own blog. :)

Random Tuesday Thoughts

Today's Random Tuesday Thoughts are brought to you by Kayla, age 16. These are some quotes I've been quietly collecting over the past month or so.

randomtuesday

  • I think spiders try to torment me on purpose. Jumping spiders are the worst to try to kill-- it's like playing ‘Whack-a-Mole’.
  • The heart is stronger than any one man's will.
  • I'm just very talkative when I have a lot to talk about. Which is all the time.
  • I love ponies! They're so cute and stubby. They are the midgets of horses.
  • I frickin' LOVE that store! I want to marry it. Goodbye, paycheck!
  • Life isn't about finding yourself. It's about creating yourself.
  • I love strawberries. If Jesus was reincarnated into a fruit, it would be strawberries.
  • Something is wrong with me. I think my whole body is dislocated.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Yesterday at work, I was a witness to the sweetest Valentine present ever-- Jean's sweet husband hired a barbershop quartet to come to her desk and sing some romantic songs to her. I wish I had my camera so I could have taken a video of the event to share with you. It truly was a tear-inducing moment.

For the rest of us, I direct you over to Blogger Dad's. He wins the GreenJello Jiggler Award again for this Valentine's post!

And finally, I leave you with a picture text message I received from Kayla... she had just finished counting all her money before leaving on a clothes shopping spree:

Kayla: Money. . . My one true love!!!! <3

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!

Me: Then you'll have to suffer.

Me: Too many people!
Kayla: Thats because its the best weather down there!
Me: Then you get more crime and more pollution because of all the people.
Kayla: Ill move to England
Me: England is rainy and cold. LOL!
Kayla: But at least its pretty! Actually ill go to australia its warm there
Me: Yeah. 115 degrees warm!

Kayla: The lack of education brings many possibilities to destruction.
Me: Wow. Where did that profound thought come from?
Kayla: Myself :P
Me: Excellent observation. :)
Kayla: Well these guys in the back of the bus were in a heated discussion about the economy and mexican immigration. They knew nothing of both, just that "it was the presidents fault" and "those stupid mexicans have no right to live like we do". If they took the time to learn about it, they would feel much differently. They didnt make me mad or anything, i just felt pity. A life without knowledge is simple but without it you will never see how the world or sense have potential for greatness. All they see is whats right in front of them.
Me: You are one smart chica. :)
Kayla: Lol if teenagers ever thought about this i bet they wouldnt drop out of school.
Me: Another excellent observation! Those who drop out realize later it probably wasn't the best decision. Life is a tough teacher.
Kayla: Some dont even realize that. Like i said, uneducated people only see whats in front of them.
Me: I think it is a shallow life. There's so much more out there.
Kayla: But they would never know they were missing anything. They only see what they want or know to see.
Me: Very true.
Kayla: Oh well to everyone their own.
Me: Do you think they're happy in their ignorance?
Kayla: No one is happy in ignorance. They dont know any better to be happy or miserable. I think they're just content.
Me: Do you think that education and awareness brings more contentment?
Kayla: No. I think awareness of what happiness truly is brings happiness. You can know whats on the other side of the river, but you can choose not to care.
