Some of you may remember the little bit of fun Lu had near the beginning of the school year. Her English teacher gave her a "test", which ultimately lead her and me to speak in front of the school board. We were told that the matter would be taken care of, and that the teacher would be talked to.
Lu received another assignment from this teacher. I told her she was NOT allowed to finish it. I am contemplating taking the matter up the food chain a bit further, to the State Charter School Board. I am SO upset.

Oh, please please please tell me this one big joke. Please? This makes me want to cry.
And what is the point of this exercise, exactly?
I've heard a couple of these told as jokes, which is offensive enough, but a school assignment?
Unbelievable! I'm with Michele, it has to be a joke in very bad taste.
I would be on the warpath.
Wow. That's utterly amazing. Truly? An actual teacher handed that out to kids? In her own class? I'm far from an uptight politically-correct kind of guy, as even a cursory reading of my stuff shows, but this is beyond the pale. WAY beyond.
Oh, my. How un-P.C. And tacky. And having nothing, as far as I can see, to do with teaching English. I would love to see the "Students will be able to..." rationale for this in the teacher's lesson plan.
"Students will be able to...
*speak in hideously bad Chinese
accent
*make bad middle-school jokes
*offend an entire culture of
people
*waste a period of time that
might actually be spent learning
something"
Warms the heart doesn't it?
Give that teacher a RAISE!
Sorry, can't say O happy day after that...
Mrs. C.
That's really scary. I say you proclaim a redneck jihad and raze the school to the ground.
HUH? Something is wrong with that teacher. She's must be harvesting assignments from her bad joke email inbox.
I wish it were a joke. Apparently, going in front of the school board and having the principal talk to this teacher didn't do any good. It's appalling.
I'm still waiting for a call from the principal... she wasn't there when I went into the school this morning.
I hope you can get some good results from the principal or from higher up on the food chain. I find it amazing that a teacher would do this.
The principal said she would talk to the teacher again.
I scanned in a copy of the worksheet, and emailed the President of the Board. I said in the email that if my daughter brings home one more racist oriented worksheet from school from this teacher, I will go directly to the State Board.
I'm not a happy mama.
Holy crap. I wouldn't believe it, but then again, it IS Utah. Anything is possible. That teacher should be fired, but I'm betting she gets promoted. Keep me posted!
Yeah, Steenky, this is one of the downsides to living in Utah. After having grown up in a state that is very racially diverse, it's been hard transitioning to a "white bread" state. Sometimes the attitudes and ignorance of the average Utahn make me cringe on a regular basis.
how is this possible?
I'm still waiting to hear that that 'teacher' got fired. But then you see I did not know that Utah had that reputation.
OMG what the F is wrong with this woman. Climb up the food chain till you get some answers. This is ridiculous.
UN-freakin-believable....
She didn't get fired. She's still my english teacher and creative writing teacher and teaches an after school food class. Every once and a while she'll bash the irish or bash congress etc. She has no idea I'm the one who keeps turning her in. I'm one of her all time favorite students.
