Conversation

After being given the option of going to church or the chores she will be expected to do instead:

Lu: That's not fair!
Me: Well, you can just come to church, and you won't have to do the chores.
Lu: Fine, I think I will!
Me: Ok.
Lu: But you can't force me to pay attention!

Tell her that if she really wants to resist, she can secretly pray to Lucifer while the rest of you are praising god. Or if she's really bold, she can say "Hail Satan" whenever the rest of you say amen.

that's hysterical. and, even though he's only 23 months, i can totally see my son saying something like that in a few years!

Sigh. I wish somebody could force ME to pay attention during some services. I get a lot of thinking done at church...

Although I sing in a freelance church choir, inbetween the music I can be observed 'deep in prayer', ie leaning gently back, eyes closed, thinking about something entirely different!

Pretty funny.

I've found that God will find a way to get you to listen to what you need to hear, no matter how much you might try to avoid it :-)

I always looked forward to the pink peppermints that I got right before the sermon started. :) Then I would sit still.

I DIDN'T pay attention. I totally zoned out and went to my own little word only to come back down some hours later when Vi shook me. Wasn't asleep though.
