I've got these extra 40 pounds on me that I really don't care for. They suddenly appeared (and it was within a 6-week time period, really) after I quit taking hormone replacement therapy crap. So my body, deprived of the estrogen it really wanted, decided to fatten me up in revenge.
While I can hold my weight well (I can always win at those "Guess Your Weight!" games at the carnival and such...), it does take a toll on my back. Even an extra 5 pounds is enough to cause me misery.
But losing the weight this time around isn't working. I've done all the usuals (hardly any carbs, upped my protein intake, I don't drink sodas, exercise, good healthy diet, etc. etc. etc.). My body wants nothing to do with it, unless I feed it more estrogen (which isn't an option anymore).
So I'm really considering the hCG diet. It's not that I necessarily want to drop the weight as quickly as they say you do on this diet (that part kind of worries me, actually). I just want something to kick start my butt into downsizing.
I would like to know if anyone has tried this, or if you know someone who has. I'm particularly interested in any long term stories and/or side effects of having done this.

I haven't, but I'll be curious about your results. One of my most successful 'diets' was modified Atkins, then Southbeach. I work well when I accept boundaries, which I'm not doing at present. My job is the most sit-down one I've had in years, and I'm paying for it.
Atkins was very successful for me in the past (that's another reason I'm considering this one-- it puts you into ketosis), but did not work after I stopped HRT. Very frustrating.
Can't really comment on this one as l have never dieted seriously, and have the figure to prove it. Trouble with diets is they are so boring and time consuming...my best way to lose weight is to be ill, but that is far too drastic.
Good luck anyway.
I did the HCG thing back in college. Not sure if it's the same one you're looking at but I had to physically inject myself in the stomach every morning. The weight came right off but I'm not sure if it was dangerous or not. I only stayed on it about two months.
Wish I could offer serious, informed advice on this one.
Thank you for all the great links you've given me to your favourite posts, too.
Watch them appear on Post of the Day shortly ....
This in from the health professional I'm sleeping with:
"If you came to me and told me you wanted to do this to lose weight I'd say HECK NO YOU'RE NOT!"
Then he showed me the places he researched it to back up his concern.
That said, we don't know anyone who has done the diet, but I tend to trust this guy's opinion. :)
If you check your e-mail I've sent you some information.
(Hey, come see me at my new blog..)
Nope but feel free to ask on Two Cents Tuesday's..someone is bound to know! Hugs, Jen
I had never heard of it before, and I'll admit that I just read very little about it, but my first gut reaction is to run away! However, I know you are smart and thoughtful and that you do your research, so I'll be interested to see what you decide.
OK, we're officially besties. I've been looking into this, too! There's a doctor that does it in American Fork. They hold meetings every week. They serve dinner there and they talk to you about the program (which costs $350, btw). We should seriously go to one together!!!!!
Oh, and sorry for not getting back to you about lunch, etc. No, I don't work outside the home. In fact, I rarely work inside it, either. Let's plan something!
Oh and my sister's friend did it and she lost the weight just like they said she would. She did gain some of it back when she stopped the injections but I really think that once I get on track to losing weight I'll be more inclined to keep it off.
